- Nanded is one of the renowned educational center in Maharashtra. As per the ancient transcripts, Nanded was known as the center for learning Sanskrit. The Students from the neighbouring Andhra Pradesh district of Nizamabad and Adilabad come to Nanded for Education.
- The Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University was established at Nanded by bifurcating the Marathwada University at Aurangabad on 17 September 1994. The University has been named after Swami Ramanand Teerth the Doyen of the Hyderabad Liberation Struggle and also a renowned educationalist and social activist. The University caters for southern part of Marathwada Region of Maharashtra State, specifically to the districts of Nanded, Latur, Parbhani and Hingoli.

Industry and Economy
Off late, Nanded has emerged as a favorite choice for Industries and Businesses in the Country. This may be due to its geographical location, being on the border of two states i.e. Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Another reason could be that, Aurangabad, which was known to be one of the fasest growing cities of India is now saturated. Another reason is Nanded is well connected with almost all major cities in India either by Road, Rail or Air. Industries like textile, sugar, drug, chemical are present in Nanded.Recently, there was a trade fair organized by the District Authorities which got a good response. Many renowned Corporates have started working on establishing their units in Nanded. Nanded is a hub of Agricultre and allied industry also, mainly cotton, Banana and food processing among others.
Nanded is one of the biggest Agricultural tradiing markets in India and second in Maharashtra after Navi Mumbai.
Nanded city's industrial estate has number of solvent plants in which DOC is produced and some of these solvent plants exports it to some foreign companies. These solvent plants also play a vital role in economy of Nanded.
Tata Chemical in support with the Pune based ethenol maker Praj Industries have set up a state of the art ethenol plant at the Krushnoor Five Star MIDC near Nanded. Parsvnath SEZ (PSL), a subsidiary of Parsvnath Developers, is developing a pharmaceutical special economic zone (SEZ) at Nanded by way of a special purpose vehicle in a joint venture (JV) with Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) over 370 acres (1.5 km2) in the Krushnoor Industrial Area of Nanded. This SEZ is amied at providing world class infrastructure to revive the interest amongst many players from the pharmaceutical sector and will serve as a big boon for the Nanded's economic growth.Also the MIDC has big plant like Jai Corp, Flamingo pharma, Mauritioun co. Welspun is going to make 1200 crores investment here, Videocon to open 1000 capacity BPO, Tata Steel and many more are also interested in the city. Its evident that Nanded soon going to be regional hub for industries.
